Floors We Install

We have been in business 25+ years, and most of that time has been spent in houses where the last floor went in long before the current owner moved in. We install hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile, tile flooring, laminate flooring, carpet installation, carpet tile, vinyl composition tile and stair flooring. We are insured, and every job is backed by our 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. Pick a floor below to read how we handle it.

  • Installer kneeling on a bare subfloor with a pneumatic nailer beside rows of new oak hardwood flooring in an empty room

    Hardwood Flooring

Solid and engineered hardwood put down over a subfloor we've opened up, checked and leveled, whether your home sits on a slab or on piers.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete subfloor, angling a wood-look vinyl plank into place beside fresh rows with black spacers along the white baseboard

    Luxury Vinyl Plank

Water-resistant vinyl plank laid over a subfloor we've opened up, checked and flattened first, so the click joints hold in an older house.

  • Tile setter kneeling on a kitchen floor, spreading thinset with a notched trowel among large gray porcelain tiles with spacers, a mortar bucket and trowel nearby

    Tile Flooring

Porcelain, ceramic and stone floors laid after we strip old layers, check the slab and fix what would crack your new tile.

  • Installer kneeling on green foam underlayment, tapping a dark wood-look laminate plank into place with a rubber mallet, stacked planks along the wall

    Laminate Flooring

Click-lock laminate installed over a subfloor we check and level first, with the right underlayment, gaps and trim for an older house.

  • Installer in gloves and jeans kneeling to trim the edge of new beige carpet over a concrete slab, with a roll of carpet pad by the wall and a knee kicker nearby

    Carpet Installation

New wall-to-wall carpet with fresh pad and tack strip, laid over a floor we have checked for old staples, loose boards and past patch jobs.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete slab, pressing a gray carpet tile into troweled adhesive beside rows of laid tiles and a stack of new carpet squares

    Carpet Tile

Soft, replaceable carpet squares for busy rooms, laid only after we check the slab or subfloor for cracks, old glue and moisture.

  • Installer in paint-spattered jeans clicking a wood-look vinyl plank into fresh rows, with black spacers along the white baseboard of an empty room

    Luxury Vinyl Tile

Stone and ceramic looks in water-resistant vinyl tile, installed after we level the floor and deal with the old layers underneath.

  • Installer kneeling to click gray wood-look vinyl planks into place in an empty bedroom, with spacers along the baseboards and loose planks on the bare subfloor

    Vinyl Composition Tile

Tough 12-inch vinyl composition tile for laundry rooms, kitchens and playrooms, set on a flat, sound base even when an older floor hides old layers.

  • Installer kneeling on a staircase tapping a new dark wood stair tread into place with a mallet, white risers, pry bar and packaging on the wood-look floor

    Stair Flooring

New treads, risers and nosing in hardwood, vinyl, laminate or carpet, cut one step at a time to fit stairs that are no longer square.

What Moves the Price on a Flooring Job

Two rooms the same size can cost very different amounts. In a house with some history, the biggest swings usually come from what is under the floor, not the floor itself. Here is what we look at when we price your job.

We measure, look under the old floor where we can and then give you a written estimate with the work broken out by line. If we find something new once the old floor is up, we stop and talk with you before doing extra work.

Square footage and layout
More floor means more material and labor. Closets, angled walls and lots of doorways add cutting time.
What has to come out
One layer of carpet pulls up fast. Glued sheet vinyl over old tile over plywood takes longer and fills more of the dumpster.
Subfloor condition
Soft spots, water stains, uneven slabs and loose boards all need fixing first. We show you what we find before the work is added.
The material you choose
Solid hardwood, porcelain tile, vinyl plank and carpet all sit at different price points, and so do their underlayments and trims.
Transitions, trim and stairs
Matching heights between rooms, new baseboard or quarter round, and stair treads each add labor. Stairs are priced step by step.
Moving furniture
If we move heavy pieces, that time is part of the job. Clearing small items yourself can help.

About Our Company

We are a flooring installer working in West University Place and the towns around it. Most of our calls come from people who bought an older house, or have lived in one a long time, and are ready to get rid of a worn or dated floor.

These houses keep us honest. A floor that looks fine on top can hide a cracked slab, a rotted spot near the tub or three layers of past remodels. We would rather find that during the walk-through than halfway through your install, so we look first and talk plainly about what we see.

Why Homeowners Call Us for Older Houses

A house with a few decades behind it rarely has one clean layer under the carpet. We plan for that from the first visit.

We expect past repairs

Plywood patches, old floor furnace openings, a strip of tile where a wall used to be. We find these during the walk-through and tell you what each one means for the new floor.

We fix the base, not just the top

New planks show every dip and hump beneath them. We level low spots, screw down loose subfloor and deal with squeaks before install, so the finished floor sits flat and quiet.

25+ years in business

We have been in business 25+ years. That is a lot of torn-out linoleum, glued-down carpet pad and mystery layers, and it means fewer surprises on your job.

Insured, with a workmanship warranty

Our coverage is in place the whole time we work in your home. Every install comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations, so if something we did comes loose or lifts, we come back and make it right.

Straight answers on layering

Sometimes the old floor can stay and the new one goes over it. Sometimes it has to come out. We tell you which and why, and we do not push a tear-out you do not need.

How a Flooring Job Runs

Most jobs follow the same four steps. The details change with the house.

  1. 1

    Walk-through and measure

We come out, measure each room and check the subfloor. We lift a vent cover or a corner of carpet when we can to see what is underneath.

  2. 2

    Written estimate

You get the work laid out line by line: removal, prep, material, install and trim. We go over the options so you can choose.

  3. 3

    Tear-out and prep

We protect doorways and the rooms we are not working in, remove the old floor and haul it away. Then we level, patch and fasten the subfloor until it is ready.

  4. 4

    Install and clean up

We lay the new floor, set the transitions and trim, and sweep and vacuum before we leave. We walk the floor with you at the end so you can point out anything that looks off.

Questions We Hear Most

Can you put the new floor over my old one?
Sometimes. Floating floors like laminate and some vinyl plank can go over a flat, solid hard floor. Carpet, cushioned vinyl and anything loose or uneven has to come out first. We check during the walk-through and tell you which way makes sense.
What if you find damage under the old floor?
We stop and show you. Rot, water damage or soft subfloor gets explained and priced before we touch it. Nothing gets added to your bill without you hearing about it first.
My house has old vinyl or tile. Could it contain asbestos?
Some vinyl flooring from past decades, and the black glue under it, can. If we see material that might, we pause and suggest you have it tested by a qualified lab before it is disturbed. We do not guess on that one.
How long does a typical install take?
A bedroom of carpet or vinyl plank is often done in a day. A larger area with tear-out, subfloor repair and tile can take several days, plus drying time for mortar and grout. We give you a time frame with the estimate.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Please clear out small items, breakables and anything in closets that sit on the floor being replaced. We can move larger furniture, and we will talk about that when we price the job.
Can you fix squeaky floors while you are at it?
Yes, once the old floor is up. Squeaks usually come from loose subfloor or gaps over the joists. We fasten it down before the new floor goes in, which is the best time to fix it.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. We give a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. If something from our install fails in that time, call us and we will come back and look at it.
